Deadly Crash on Mechanicsville Turnpike Under Investigation

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. — Authorities are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Mechanicsville Turnpike on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2023, at approximately 5:40 p.m.

According to the Hanover County Sheriff's Office, a 2019 Ford Edge was traveling westbound at high speed when it collided with a 2007 Dodge Ram that was turning into Sam's Xpress Wash in the 6200 block of Mechanicsville Turnpike.

The driver of the Dodge Ram, 54-year-old Teddy Barton, was from his vehicle due to the impact and later succumbed to his injuries on Jan. 12, 2024. The driver of the Ford Edge, who has not been identified, was arrested for DUI.

Investigators are actively gathering information related to the circumstances surrounding the crash. Witnesses or anyone with pertinent information are encouraged to contact Deputy Cunningham at 804-572-3193.

The sheriff's office offered condolences to Barton's family during this difficult time.
