A South Carolina deputy rescued a woman from her burning vehicle following a crash on Interstate 77 on May 23.

The Chester County Sheriff's Office reported that Deputy Daniel Threatt responded to a accident where the woman's overturned and caught fire. He was the first to arrive on scene.

Authorities said Threatt acted promptly, entering the burning vehicle to extricate the driver, who was trapped inside. Additional first responders arrived shortly after to extinguish the flames and provide medical care.

The driver, identified as 39-year-old Carletta Bush, was en route from out of state to Charlotte to celebrate the completion of her radiation treatments for breast cancer. Body camera footage captured Threatt's desperate efforts to rescue her by shattering a window.

“I called out to her, and she said she was stuck in the seat belt,” Threatt recounted. “This is where me and her meet God,” he noted, reflecting on the potential danger.

Bush expressed gratitude, calling Threatt her “guardian angel,” as no one else was there to help her during the emergency. Threatt later visited her in the hospital to check on her recovery.

The incident highlights the risks law enforcement officers undertake to ensure public safety. An investigation into the crash is underway, and no fatalities were reported.
