Drunk driver escapes traffic stop by jumping into swamp, is subsequently attacked by alligator, police report.

ST. CHARLES PARISH, La. (WKRC) – A drunk driver fleeing a crash on Interstate 310 was after being attacked by an alligator on June 7.

According to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office and the Louisiana State Police, state troopers initiated a traffic stop on I-310 after observing a vehicle recklessly driving and striking a concrete barrier, resulting in a blown tire.

Authorities identified the driver as 40-year-old Victor Rivas. During the DWI investigation, Rivas fled on foot, jumping from the elevated interstate into a swamp below.

Police later found Rivas fleeing again. He was reportedly attacked by an alligator, sustaining injuries to both arms, before continuing to evade capture.

Rivas was eventually located by a police drone and apprehended. He was with non-life-threatening injuries and charged with operating a vehicle while impaired and resisting an officer.

The alligator involved in the incident was unharmed and has resumed its normal activity in the swamp, authorities confirmed.
