OAK PARK, Ill. (April 3, 2023) — A driver died by suicide following a chain-reaction crash that injured 14 people this morning.
According to authorities, the 48-year-old driver, identified as Thomas Cremeens, ran a red light while avoiding a pedestrian, colliding with multiple vehicles, including a bus.
Police confirmed that 11 individuals were transported to nearby hospitals, while three were treated on-site. None of the injuries were reported as serious.
After the incident, a bystander approached Cremeens' vehicle. Witness accounts indicate a gunshot was heard shortly after, with officials confirming that Cremeens died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Emergency response teams attended the scene, and an investigation into the accident is ongoing.
