SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — A driver was arrested and another sustained injuries following a wrong-way collision on Interstate 80 in Parleys Canyon late Sunday night.
The accident occurred shortly after 11 p.m., according to the Utah Highway Patrol (UHP). A deputy was responding to reports of a wrong-way vehicle when the situation escalated into an injurious crash.
Upon arrival, the deputy found a Ford F-150 facing the wrong direction, significantly damaged in the front, alongside a white van overturned with damage to the driver's side door.
The driver of the van stated he saw the approaching vehicle and attempted to swerve but was struck. He was transported to a hospital, although the extent of his injuries has not been disclosed.
Authorities noted that the driver of the Ford, identified as 29-year-old Bradley John Michels, exhibited signs of impairment. A field sobriety test was administered, confirming additional signs of intoxication.
Michels claimed he was driving westbound from Park City when the collision occurred. He was arrested and taken to the UHP office, where he consented to a blood draw and breath test.
The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be released as they become available.
