BELOIT, Wis. (WKOW) — An arrest has been made in a fatal crash that occurred Monday night on Woodward Avenue, involving a vehicle that lost control within a cemetery.
At approximately 10:47 p.m., a silver 2005 Dodge pickup careened off the road in the 1300 block, damaging multiple headstones. According to authorities, the driver, Steven R. Meade II, fled the scene on foot.
A male passenger in his 20s remained trapped in the wreckage with serious injuries, and he later died from those injuries, the Beloit Police Department confirmed on Friday. The identity of the passenger has not been released.
Video evidence shows the pickup speeding prior to the incident, authorities said. The Beloit Police worked in conjunction with the Wisconsin State Patrol, which is conducting a reconstruction of the crash.
Meade has been charged with first-degree reckless homicide and a probation violation. The Beloit Police Department has expressed condolences to the victim's family and friends.
