NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WJAR) — A man was charged in connection with a hit-and-run crash on Victory Highway that occurred in early May, authorities announced Monday.
According to court records, 36-year-old Keith Cabana faces charges of duty to stop in an accident resulting in injury and reckless driving.
North Smithfield Police responded to reports of an erratic driver on Victory Highway. Witnesses described the vehicle as a dark-colored Silverado traveling at a high rate of speed and operating over the solid line.
While en route to the scene, police received information that the vehicle struck another car on Victory Highway, beyond Halliwell. Upon arrival, officers discovered a heavily damaged Chevrolet with injury reports from the driver.
Authorities noted the suspect vehicle continued onto Route 146 south, traveling on three wheels and a damaged rim. The driver of the struck vehicle sustained minor injuries and stated he had swerved to avoid a head-on collision.
Dashcam footage provided by a witness helped police identify Cabana as the suspected driver. He is scheduled for arraignment on Tuesday, according to electronic court documents.
