MONTELLO, Wis. (WKOW) — A Montello man has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run crash that resulted in the death of a Packwaukee man on June 27.
Charles Hughes, 65, faces a charge of hit-and-run resulting in death. According to authorities, Ryan Alexander, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the incident, which occurred in the early morning hours.
The Marquette County Sheriff's Office reported that Hughes claimed visibility was poor at the time of the crash. He stated he initially thought he had encountered an animal in the roadway and attempted to avoid it. After realizing something was lodged under his vehicle, he checked his tires at home and intended to conduct a more thorough inspection the following morning.
The Marquette County District Attorney's Office is currently reviewing the case. A bond hearing for Hughes is scheduled for Wednesday.
