A single-vehicle crash in Surf City on Thursday afternoon resulted in one person being airlifted to the hospital after a deer entered the vehicle.
According to the Surf City Police Department, the incident occurred on N.C. 210 when a deer ran into the roadway, struck the windshield, and ended up inside the car.
Authorities reported that the deer began kicking the occupants, prompting the vehicle to veer off the road and collide with a tree.
The deer was able to exit the vehicle following the crash.
Both occupants were reported to be alert and conscious. Emergency responders, including the Surf City Fire Department and Pender EMS, provided medical assistance at the scene.
The extent of injuries for the other occupant has not been disclosed.
