WASHINGTON — Hearings on Louisville’s deadly UPS plane crash concluded on Wednesday, focusing on potential failures related to a critical engine-mount part.

Authorities said the MD-11’s engine separated from the wing shortly after takeoff from Louisville International Airport in November. Investigators discovered cracks in the pylon attaching the engine to the wing. According to UPS, three additional pylon fractures have since been identified across its MD-11 fleet.

Witnesses reported that the crew involved in the crash had been reassigned earlier in the day due to a fuel leak. Federal officials questioned leaders from UPS, Boeing, and the FAA during the hearings, investigating if warning signs were overlooked and whether current safety regulations adequately address potential chain reactions arising from failures.

The hearings took place in Washington D.C. and concluded around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Further updates will follow as more information becomes available.
