Ohio Rep. Marcy Kaptur hospitalized after hit-and-run crash on her way to church, police say

TOLEDO, Ohio — Rep. Marcy Kaptur, 80, was after a hit-skip crash at 10:48 a.m. Sunday near North Detroit and West Central.

According to the Toledo Police Department, Kaptur was a passenger in a driven by 26-year-old Kegan Zimmerman. Police said both sustained non-life-threatening injuries and are in stable condition.

Officers and Toledo Fire and Rescue responded to the scene. Authorities said both vehicles were impounded and evidence processing is underway.

The other driver fled. Investigators have made “significant progress” and are following several strong leads to identify the driver, Toledo police told WTOL.

A statement on Kaptur's X account said she is active, alert, and receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

A witness told WTOL the fleeing driver was picked up by another vehicle.
