CONWAY — Two pedestrians were critically injured early on August 16 after being struck by a vehicle near Coastal Carolina University, authorities said.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:16 a.m. at the intersection of Elvington Loop and S.C. Highway 544. Horry County Fire Rescue dispatched crews to the scene, temporarily closing lanes on S.C. 544. Those lanes have since reopened.
Both injured individuals were transported to a local hospital. The Conway Police Department is investigating the collision, with assistance from the Horry County and Coastal Carolina University police departments.
This weekend marks move-in for Coastal Carolina students. While authorities have not confirmed whether the injured parties are students, S.C. Highway 544 has a history of safety concerns due to its proximity to the university and student housing.
