ISLE OF PALMS — A teenage driver was cited for reckless driving following a fiery crash on the Isle of Palms Connector on July 3.
The incident occurred at 8:19 a.m., involving a Ford pickup truck and a Toyota SUV, according to MOUNT PLEASANT POLICE. Five individuals were transported to a local hospital, with injuries categorized as serious but stable.
Witnesses reported that the pickup truck, en route to Isle of Palms, crossed the center line and struck the Toyota while attempting to pass another vehicle. The collision caused the pickup to roll onto its side and ignite.
Firefighters managed to extricate the trapped driver of the Toyota SUV. Both the driver and passenger of the Ford pickup were also hospitalized.
The 16-year-old driver of the pickup was cited for reckless driving. The Isle of Palms Connector reopened at 10:45 a.m. after an extended closure, creating significant traffic delays for beachgoers.
