Crash leads to no contest plea in deadly hit-and-run.

LEWISTON, Wis. (WKOW) — A Portage man pleaded no contest Wednesday to a charge stemming from a May 2024 crash that resulted in his passenger's death.

Keegin Neveln, 27, was found guilty of hit and run causing death after a judge accepted his plea agreement. Prosecutors dismissed two other pending felonies as part of the deal.

According to a criminal complaint, Neveln crashed into a tree on Malisch Road in Lewiston and called 911, admitting to being the driver but leaving the scene. He later expressed concern about the condition of his passenger.

Authorities identified the passenger as 21-year-old Kayla Mcclenithan, who was found unresponsive at the scene and later .

Neveln's sentencing is set for November 3, where the dismissed felonies will be discussed to determine the severity of his sentence.

Neveln's father, Kenneth Neveln, was convicted of harboring/aiding a felon related to the aftermath of the crash. He received a four-year probation sentence and was ordered to pay court costs.
