Columbus Man Struck and Killed in Easton Accident

A 48-year-old Columbus man was killed in a pedestrian accident on Stelzer Road near Montclair Drive on Oct. 22 at approximately 12:09 p.m.

Gerson Duque-Ruiz was exchanging vehicle information after being rear-ended when he was struck by a third vehicle, according to the Columbus Police Accident Investigation Unit (AIU). Minutes before the incident, Duque-Ruiz had been pulled over with the driver of a 2012 Nissan Altima to assess damages from the earlier collision.

While both men were standing between their vehicles, a 2015 Dodge Caravan struck the Nissan Altima, which then hit Duque-Ruiz. The driver of the Altima sustained minor injuries but remained at the scene. Duque-Ruiz was transported to Mt. Carmel St. Ann's Hospital in Westerville, where he was at 1:16 p.m.

The AIU is investigating the crash; no charges have been filed as of Oct. 27, according to Franklin County Municipal Court records.

Authorities continue to gather details about the incident.
