Cattle Hauler Crash on U.S. Highway 77 in Waxahachie

WAXAHACHIE, Texas—A tractor-trailer transporting cattle crashed into a retaining wall on U.S. Highway 77 on Thursday afternoon, September 18, 2025.

The vehicle, which was hauling 52 head of cattle, veered off an embankment, leaving visible tire tracks in the median. Repair crews are assessing significant damage to the concrete where the truck impacted.

The driver was transported to a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. No other injuries have been reported.

First responders established a temporary corral to transfer the animals, including 20 bulls and 32 calves, from the damaged truck to a new trailer. A veterinarian is on-site attending to animals that could not be evacuated. The number of cattle injured or killed in the incident remains unclear.

A hazmat team is currently handling a fuel spill resulting from the crash. Road closures are in effect on the 77/287 intersection, while U.S. Highway 287 remains open.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
