A fiery crash at the intersection of Route 6 and Route 136 left two people trapped in a burning vehicle shortly after midnight on Friday.

According to authorities, a Dighton man, 28-year-old Demitri Sousa, crashed into another vehicle after evading police earlier that night.

The collision caused the second vehicle to catch fire, ensnaring two Bristol residents inside. Emergency services responded to the scene shortly after 12:00 a.m.

Corey Paiva, who was nearby, rushed to help despite the flames. He reported using multiple fire extinguishers in an attempt to reach the victims before firefighters arrived.

“There was no stopping that fire with just fire extinguishers,” Paiva said. “I don't know how many were used, but I'd say about 20.”

Emergency responders from the Swansea Fire Department arrived and extinguished the flames, but details about the victims' conditions remain unconfirmed.

The identities of the two individuals trapped in the vehicle have not yet been released. Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
