Astoria Man Dies in Accident Near Ramona

A 70-year-old man from Astoria died on Sept. 9 after being struck by a vehicle approximately 2 miles northeast of Ramona, according to the South Dakota Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred around 7:20 p.m. on 223rd Street when the man was working on a riding lawnmower that had separated from a tailgate-mounted carrier. A pickup truck driven by a teenager from Nunda was traveling westbound on 223rd Street near its intersection with 451st Avenue when it collided with the pedestrian and the lawnmower.

Authorities confirmed that the driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured in the crash. The names of those involved have not been released pending family notification. The investigation remains ongoing, and all information released is preliminary.
