ASHLAND, Ore. — Two 17-year-old students from Ashland High School lost their lives in a vehicle crash on February 22, according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.
The crash occurred around 12:30 a.m. in the 1350 block of East Nevada Street when an Audi A6 lost control and struck a tree. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and one passenger died shortly after being transported to the hospital. The remaining three passengers were hospitalized with critical injuries but are now in stable condition.

According to Superintendent Dr. Joseph Hattrick, community support has been crucial during this difficult time, with 25 mental health counselors and social workers available to assist.
A memorial has been established at the crash site, where community members have placed flowers and cards in remembrance. Additionally, a heart made of flowers in the quad at Ashland High School serves as a tribute, with students encouraged to write supportive messages in chalk.
The investigation into the incident, being conducted by the Sheriff's Office's Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) Team, suggests the vehicle was speeding eastbound before losing control in a curve.
