A 65-year-old Galena man was seriously injured Friday morning when a commercial truck struck him on Big Walnut Road, authorities said.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on Big Walnut Road just west of State Route 3.

Troopers said a 2019 Freightliner driven by Luther Smith, 49, of Richmond, Kentucky, was stopped westbound at a red light at SR 3.

When the light turned green, Smith proceeded westbound and struck bicyclist Joseph Stoll, 65, of Galena, who entered the crossing from the bike path, according to troopers. Investigators said Stoll failed to stop before entering the roadway.

Authorities said Stoll was wearing a helmet and was taken to Riverside Hospital with serious injuries.

The Ohio Department of Transportation, Genoa Township Fire Department and EMS, the Delaware County Sheriff's Office, and Genoa Township Police Department assisted at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
