Early-Afternoon Crash Closes Northbound Lake Pontchartrain Causeway
A three-vehicle crash on the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway closed the northbound span at around 12:41 p.m. on [date].
According to Causeway General Manager Carlton Dufrechou, the incident occurred shortly after a motorist reported a pickup driving aggressively. As Causeway police monitored the roadway, they received reports of the crash at the 3.4-mile mark on the Metairie side of the bridge.
Four individuals sustained injuries, with some transported to hospitals on the south shore. Dufrechou noted that the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening. The investigation is ongoing, and no citations have been issued at this time.
The northbound span, which was reduced to a single lane due to routine inspections, remained closed for over 90 minutes as first responders attended to those injured and cleared the scene. The bridge reopened at 2:10 p.m.
Dufrechou indicated that the pickup involved in the collision “piled into a vehicle in front of it,” causing a chain reaction with another vehicle. “Traffic was light,” he added. “This never should have happened.”
