GREAT FALLS — A 12-year-old girl died and two others were injured in a single-vehicle crash in Yellowstone County on Friday, August 22, 2025.
The incident occurred around 6:40 a.m. near mile marker 460 on Interstate 90. According to the Montana Highway Patrol (MHP), a 42-year-old man was driving a Jeep Gladiator westbound with a 14-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl, all residents of Burien, Washington.
The driver reportedly lost control while negotiating a left turn, causing the Jeep to veer off the right side of the road and collide with a tree, which led to the vehicle overturning. The Jeep subsequently hit another tree and landed on its roof.
The 12-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver and the teenage boy were transported to Intermountain Health for medical treatment. MHP confirmed that the driver and the boy were wearing seatbelts; however, the girl was not.
Authorities stated that alcohol, drugs, and speed were not contributing factors in the crash. The MHP is continuing its investigation into the incident.
