MALDEN, Mass. —
Five juveniles were arrested early Tuesday after allegedly stealing a vehicle in Medford and crashing into a Massachusetts State Police cruiser in Malden.
According to Medford Police, officers responded to a report of five juveniles attempting to break into a vehicle on Barbara Lane.
A witness reported seeing the suspects fleeing a truck after being chased. He provided police with a description of the individuals involved.
Medford officers located a vehicle matching the suspects' description on Lincoln Road. The vehicle subsequently crashed into a red Prius before fleeing the scene.
As an officer attempted to make contact, the driver allegedly accelerated toward the officer, prompting the discharge of a firearm. Massachusetts State Police were notified, and a pursuit ensued into Malden.
In Malden, the suspect vehicle collided with a State Police cruiser. Witnesses reported hearing gunfire during the encounter.
One witness described hearing a “loud crash” at approximately 5:16 a.m., followed by sirens. The vehicle came to a stop shortly after the second crash.
Authorities apprehended two individuals at the scene. The remaining suspects fled but were later captured at the intersection of James and Medford Streets.
Three officers and one suspect were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries, none of which were related to the shots fired.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing, according to authorities.
