Fatal Crash Investigated on Daniel K. Inouye Highway

HILo, HI—A fatal vehicle crash occurred on the Daniel K. Inouye Highway on Friday at approximately 2:41 p.m., resulting in one confirmed death, according to Big Island Police.

Authorities reported that the crash involved two vehicles and occurred in the eastbound lanes near Mile Marker 15. Emergency responders from the Hawaii Fire Department arrived on the scene to provide medical aid; however, one individual was at the site.

Witnesses reported that speed may have been a contributing factor. This incident marks the fifth fatality on the highway this year, prompting authorities to remind the public about the dangers of impaired driving and the importance of seatbelt use.

The roadway was temporarily closed during the investigation and cleanup process, which is still ongoing. Police have not released further information about the deceased or ongoing investigations.
