Five Dead in I-95 Bus Collision in Stafford County, Virginia
STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — Five people are dead and 34 others injured following a bus collision with six vehicles on Interstate 95 south early Friday morning, according to Virginia State Police.
Authorities reported that traffic was slowing for a work zone when a bus operated by E&P Travel, traveling from New York City to Charlotte, collided with multiple vehicles shortly after 2:35 a.m. near the 610-Garrisonville exit.
Twenty patients were transported to Mary Washington Healthcare facilities; seven were taken to the trauma center in Fredericksburg, where two remain in critical condition. Others have been treated and discharged. Twelve individuals were transported to Stafford Hospital, all of whom have been released.
The crash closed I-95 south for over four hours, with all lanes reopening by noon. However, traffic was still backed up approximately five miles as of the latest report.
The incident is under investigation, and charges are pending, according to police.
