JUPITER FARMS, Fla. — A two-vehicle crash on Saturday afternoon resulted in the deaths of a grandmother and her 16-year-old granddaughter.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, Deidre North, 77, ran a stop sign around 4:40 p.m. at the intersection of Randolph Siding Road and Alexander Run, pulling into the path of a Ford pick-up truck.
The SUV was westbound on Randolph Siding Road when it entered the intersection without stopping. The truck struck the driver's side of the SUV, causing it to spin off the road, crash into a tree, and come to a rest in a grassy area at the northwest corner of the intersection.
The truck's driver, 28, swerved into the opposite lane but regained control following the collision. North was pronounced dead at the scene. Paramedics transported her granddaughter, Jade North, to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Authorities said the incident is under investigation, and details regarding lane closures or vehicle tows have not been disclosed.
Juanita North, Deidre's daughter and Jade's mother, expressed her grief, stating, “Rest in peace, my darling angel. I miss you so much… You will be forever in my heart.”
This tragic incident highlights the ongoing importance of road safety measures at intersections.
