FORT PIERCE, Fla. — A traffic homicide investigation is underway following a crash that shut down all northbound lanes of the Florida Turnpike on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 2:41 p.m. at mile-marker 170, involving a semi-truck and trailer that jackknifed, landing on a passenger vehicle. St. Lucie County Fire Rescue crews responded to assist passengers who were trapped inside the car.
Authorities have not confirmed the number of people involved or the extent of any injuries. As a result of the crash, all northbound lanes of the Turnpike remain closed in St. Lucie County.
Drivers are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes, as significant delays are expected. The investigation is ongoing.
