SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — A wrong-way crash on Interstate 80 in Parleys Canyon resulted in one injury and one driver in custody Sunday night.
The incident occurred shortly after 11 p.m., according to the UTAH HIGHWAY PATROL (UHP). A deputy was responding to reports of a wrong-way vehicle when the situation escalated into a crash involving injuries.
Upon arrival, officers found a Ford F-150 facing the wrong direction and a white van on its side. The van sustained significant damage to its driver's side door, while the Ford had major front-end damage.
Witnesses reported that the van's driver attempted to swerve to avoid the oncoming vehicle but was struck instead. He was transported to a hospital for undisclosed injuries.
Authorities interviewed the Ford driver, identified as 29-year-old Bradley John Michels. Officers detected the smell of alcohol and conducted a field sobriety test, noting several signs of impairment.
Michels claimed he was driving westbound from Park City when he collided with the van. He was taken into custody and transported to the UHP office, where he consented to a blood draw and breath test.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are evaluating the accident further.
