Remains of Ohio Airmen Killed in Iraq Refueling Crash to Be Transferred at Dover on Wednesday

Military and state officials will conduct a dignified transfer for three Ohio airmen at Dover Air Force Base on Wednesday.

Gov. Mike DeWine said he and First Lady Fran DeWine will attend with senior Ohio National Guard staff to pay respects.

The fallen are Capt. Seth Koval, of Mooresville, Indiana; Capt. Curtis Angst, of Wilmington, Ohio; and Master Sgt. Tyler Simmons, of Columbus, Ohio.

According to the Ohio National Guard, the three served with the 121st Air Refueling Wing at Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base in Columbus.

Authorities said they were among six airmen killed when a KC-135 refueling aircraft crashed in western Iraq while supporting Operation Epic Fury.

The other three airmen were assigned to the 6th Air Refueling Wing at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, officials said.

Simmons was posthumously promoted from technical sergeant, according to the Adjutant General’s Department.

Transfer time and additional ceremony details were not immediately available, authorities said.
