Route 101 in Amherst closed following a fatal crash involving a tanker truck on Friday afternoon.
AMHERST, N.H. —
Two individuals were killed in the incident, which involved a tanker truck and multiple vehicles, according to police.
Authorities reported that a westbound car attempted to pass another vehicle, resulting in a head-on collision with the tanker truck. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.
A pickup truck towing a trailer also struck the passing vehicle, but the driver was not injured, authorities said.
The tanker truck overturned and was seen off the side of the roadway.
Amherst Police Chief Anthony Ciampoli confirmed, “We have an oil tanker that has flipped over from a collision. It contains oil, and there was a small leak that has been contained; however, all the fuel must be transferred to another tanker.”
Clean Harbors and the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services were dispatched to manage the offloading of the tanker.
The roadway remains closed until the tanker is safely removed from the area, police stated.
