WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (KUTV) — A fiery crash at American Preparatory Academy claimed one life late Monday night.
According to West Valley Police, the incident occurred around 11 p.m. on September 14 near 3100 South and 3600 West. The unidentified driver was reportedly traveling east on 3100 South at a high rate of speed when they misjudged a turn, veering into the school parking lot.
The vehicle struck the building after jumping the curb on the south side of the school, subsequently catching fire. Emergency responders described the car as engulfed in flames upon arrival, and the driver was found deceased inside.
Crews remained on the scene for several hours, clearing the area by 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
American Preparatory Academy officials thanked the West Valley City Police and local fire departments for their rapid response. They confirmed that damage to the school was minimal and classes would proceed as scheduled.
The investigation into the crash continues.
