GERMANTOWN, Md. (WJLA) — A two-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning left one man dead and seven children injured in Germantown, Maryland.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service responded to the incident at the intersection of Clopper Road and Great Seneca Highway around 5:30 a.m. Officials reported that one vehicle overturned and caught fire.

The crash involved eight individuals: one adult male, who was the sole occupant of a blue vehicle, and seven children aged 12 to 15, all of whom were inside a white vehicle. The adult male was at the scene, while the children were transported to area hospitals, with some in critical condition.

There were no adults in the white vehicle, and authorities noted that none of the juveniles were old enough to be legally driving.

Montgomery County Police spokeswoman Shiera Goff confirmed, “What I can say to you is that the white vehicle had juveniles in it. None of them were licensed to drive.”

As of Tuesday morning, the intersection remains closed for several hours as investigators reconstruct the crash. Drivers are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
