Cranston Man Charged in Fatal Bicyclist Crash
CRANSTON, RI — A 21-year-old man faces charges following a fatal crash involving a bicyclist on Wellington Avenue late Saturday night.
Kelvin Santana has been charged with one count of duty to stop in an accident resulting in death.
Cranston Police responded to reports of a bicyclist lying in the roadway at 10:45 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found 58-year-old Michael Ouellet suffering severe injuries, including multiple head lacerations.
Ouellet was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities reported that he was walking his bicycle when he was struck from behind by Santana's vehicle.
Investigators identified Santana as the operator of a blue 2022 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, which sustained damage to the front driver's side. The vehicle has been towed to Cranston Police Headquarters for a thorough examination.
Santana was taken to the Kent County Courthouse for arraignment.
