TIVERTON, R.I. (WJAR) — A single-vehicle crash resulted in one death on Saturday near Eight Rod Way and Morning Dove Drive.
Authorities said they responded to the scene at 2:41 p.m., where they discovered a red Toyota RAV4 that had veered off the roadway and struck a tree. The vehicle sustained extensive damage.
The driver, identified as 40-year-old Matthew Poirier of Tiverton, was the sole occupant and found unresponsive. Emergency responders extricated him and transported him to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police confirmed that there is currently no evidence suggesting the involvement of additional vehicles in the incident. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
Witnesses reported the crash occurred in a residential area with no nearby traffic.
