Ford Recalls Nearly 420,000 Vehicles Over Seat Belt Issues
DETROIT, MI — On Tuesday, Ford Motor Co. announced a recall affecting approximately 420,000 vehicles due to a seat belt malfunction that may lead to injuries in the event of a crash.
The affected models include certain Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator vehicles from the 2018 through 2022 model years. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue is related to seat belts that may inadvertently lock, preventing them from retracting or extending properly. This may increase the risk of injury during accidents.
Ford is aware of two warranty claims and one reported injury associated with this issue. Vehicle owners will receive notification by mail and can take their vehicles to any Ford or Lincoln dealer for free inspection and replacement of the affected seat belt retractors.
In addition, Ford has issued a do-not-drive warning for 4,600 Bronco Sport and Maverick vehicles from the 2021 through 2026 model years. Authorities reported that front lower control arm ball joints could have been incorrectly installed, raising the risk of detachment, which may lead to a loss of vehicle control and an increased likelihood of crashes.
Dealers will inspect and repair the affected parts at no cost to owners. For further information, individuals can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236.
