Woman severely injured in St. Cloud car crash and fire; one arrested.

UPDATE: A woman in St. Cloud is critically injured following a that resulted in the death of her unborn fetus.

The incident occurred on Friday at 12:56 p.m. in the 3200 block of 5th Street North, according to the St. Cloud Police Department. An SUV driven by 32-year-old Christopher Otte of Avon was heading westbound when it crossed into oncoming traffic, colliding with an eastbound minivan.

The driver of the minivan, a 34-year-old woman, was trapped inside her vehicle, which subsequently caught fire. The St. Cloud Fire Department extricated her and extinguished the flames before transporting her to the hospital with serious injuries. Authorities confirmed the woman was in the late stages of pregnancy and that her unborn fetus did not survive.

Otte was also with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities suspect impairment as a factor in the crash. He is currently held on two charges of criminal vehicular homicide, according to the Stearns County Sheriff's Office's jail roster.

The investigation continues.
