Woman dies in crash following police chase in Fort Wayne.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WISH) — A woman died Wednesday morning following a crash related to a police pursuit in Fort Wayne, according to the Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD).

At 7 a.m., an FWPD officer patrolling the Northeast Quadrant identified a white Chevrolet Tahoe, which matched the description of a vehicle reported stolen from the Southeast Quadrant. The vehicle fled after running a red light, heading eastbound. It collided with another vehicle near Lake and Old Maysville Road, causing minor injuries to that occupant.

The stolen Tahoe continued east, left the road at Lake and Wyss, and struck several trees. The driver, a woman, was pinned inside and had to be extricated by the Fort Wayne Fire Department. She was transported to a local hospital, where she later died.

The FWPD Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) is investigating the incident and is being assisted by the Air Support Unit. The identity of the driver will be released by the Allen County Coroner's Office. Lake Avenue near Old Maysville Road was closed during the investigation.
