US-131 Reopens Following Dump Truck Crash.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — UPDATE: All lanes of southbound US-131 at Burton Street reopened at 6:30 p.m.

A crash involving an asphalt dump truck occurred shortly before 6 p.m. on southbound US-131 near Burton Street. Michigan State Police reported that a merging vehicle cut off the dump truck, causing it to overturn and spill asphalt across the left lanes of the highway.

The 22-year-old driver of the dump truck was transported to a local hospital in stable condition, suffering burns to his back and a broken left arm.

Emergency crews are currently removing asphalt and clearing the roadway. All southbound traffic has been diverted off the highway at Burton Street, with access to the highway available just south of the crash site.

Authorities are advising drivers to expect delays and seek alternative routes. The investigation is ongoing as police interview witnesses.
