LAKE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) — Authorities confirmed that the public is no longer at risk following a vehicle crash involving suspects in a stolen car on July 8.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office responded to the incident near the Pleasant Plains Township Fire Department at 7333 S M-37, Baldwin. The vehicle, tied to an unarmed robbery/carjacking in Muskegon County, was observed traveling northbound on M-37 when deputies initiated a stop.
The driver failed to yield, leading to a crash near the fire department where both the driver and passenger fled on foot. Authorities described the driver as Hispanic, approximately 6-foot-1, and likely in his 20s. No details have been released regarding the passenger.
Law enforcement is coordinating efforts with local agencies and has deployed a K-9 unit to assist in searching the area. The sheriff's office urges anyone observing suspicious activities or individuals to contact 911.
No injuries or additional incidents have been reported. Lane closures were implemented during the investigation, which remains ongoing.
