WADSWORTH, Ill. (WKOW) — Two individuals died in a multi-vehicle crash on Route 173 west of North Kilbourne Road on Thursday at approximately 7:50 a.m.
Lake County Sheriff's Deputies and Newport Township Fire Protection District responded to the scene. The crash involved a 2009 Acura sedan, a Freightliner semi-truck, and a Honda minivan.
The Acura, driven by a 51-year-old man from Stoughton, Wisconsin, was traveling eastbound when it reportedly drifted into the path of the westbound Freightliner, driven by a 25-year-old man from Evergreen Park. The semi-truck, which was carrying a 35,000-pound load, collided head-on with the Acura. Following this, the eastbound Honda minivan, driven by a 54-year-old woman from Salem, Wisconsin, struck the Acura.
Both the Acura's driver and a 45-year-old female passenger from Stoughton were pronounced dead at the scene. The Honda driver was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the Freightliner driver sustained no injuries and is cooperating with the investigation.
The Lake County Coroner's Office is conducting autopsies, and the Lake County Sheriff's Office Technical Crash Investigations Team continues to investigate the incident.
