WADSWORTH, Ill. (WKOW) — A three-vehicle crash on Route 173 resulted in two fatalities Thursday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:50 a.m. west of North Kilbourne Road, prompting response from Lake County Sheriff's Deputies and Newport Township Fire Protection District.
A 2009 Acura sedan, driven by a 51-year-old man from Stoughton, Wisconsin, was traveling eastbound when it drifted into the path of a westbound Freightliner semi-truck, driven by a 25-year-old man from Evergreen Park.
The head-on collision involved the semi-truck, which was carrying a 35,000-pound load. Additionally, an eastbound Honda minivan, driven by a 54-year-old woman from Salem, Wisconsin, collided with the Acura after the initial impact.
Both the driver and a 45-year-old female passenger in the Acura were pronounced dead at the scene. The Honda driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital. The Freightliner driver was not injured and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
The Lake County Coroner's Office has scheduled autopsies, while the Lake County Sheriff's Office Technical Crash Investigations Team continues to investigate the incident.
