Two Killed in Selbyville Crash

SELBYVILLE, DE — A two-vehicle crash on Route 54 claimed the lives of two individuals on the morning of July 8, according to Delaware State Police.

Veronika McCoy, 22, of Berlin, Maryland, was driving a Chevrolet Camaro when she collided head-on with a Hyundai Santa Fe around 7:55 a.m. near New Road. Police reported that McCoy's vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic.

Douglas Bachtell, 77, of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, was a front-seat passenger in the Santa Fe and was at the scene. McCoy was transported to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the Santa Fe, a 74-year-old man from Selbyville, sustained critical injuries during the incident.

Emergency services responded promptly, and an investigation into the crash is ongoing. Authorities are seeking any witnesses or individuals with relevant information to come forward.
