Mountain Home AFB Air Show Canceled Following Midair Collision of Fighter Jets
MOUNTAIN HOME, Idaho — An air show at Mountain Home Air Force Base was canceled Sunday after two Navy fighter jets collided midair and crashed at approximately 12:10 p.m. local time.
According to Cmdr. Amelia Umayam of the U.S. Pacific Fleet's Naval Air Forces, all four crew members ejected and are in stable condition. The collision involved two EA-18G aircraft from Electronic Attack Squadron 129, stationed at Whidbey Island, Washington.
The incident occurred about 2 miles northwest of the base during the second day of the Gunfighter Skies Air Show. Eyewitness video captured the collision and subsequent crash, showing black smoke rising from the site. Four parachutes were seen deploying.
Col. David R. Gunter, wing commander of the 366th Fighter Wing, expressed gratitude that everyone involved is safe and thanked first responders for their efforts. A lockdown was initiated at 12:30 p.m. as emergency crews responded, and guests were later escorted off the base by 3 p.m.
Mountain Home police confirmed the air show cancellation and advised the public to avoid the area. The incident is currently under investigation, with additional updates expected.
