WARREN COUNTY, Tenn. (WTVF) — Two individuals died in a small plane crash in Warren County on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Warren County Sheriff Jackie Matheny Jr., the aircraft took off from a private airstrip in Viola before crashing near Morrison.

Investigators believe the plane struck a tree shortly after takeoff but continued flying before going down, likely en route to Warren County Memorial Airport.

The crash resulted in a significant debris field, indicating the aircraft may have nosedived upon impact.

Authorities have not released the identities of the pilot and passenger. Sheriff Matheny stated he has been in contact with their families and is awaiting confirmation of next-of-kin notifications before releasing names.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the incident. An NTSB investigator is expected to arrive at the site on Thursday to determine the cause of the crash.

No further information is currently available.
