A Boonville man suffered serious injuries Saturday evening in a crash involving a go-kart and a dirt bike in Cooper County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), the crash occurred just after 5:25 p.m. on Rocheport Road, east of Highway 98.
Troopers reported that a 33-year-old Boonville man was driving a Murray go-kart westbound when he stopped in the roadway for an unknown reason. A 15-year-old boy from Boonville, riding a Honda CRF 300F dirt bike, then collided with the back of the go-kart.
The impact overturned the go-kart, ejecting the driver, who ended up trapped underneath the vehicle. The teenage dirt bike rider was also thrown from his bike, which landed in a nearby ditch.
The go-kart driver, who was not wearing a safety device, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to University Hospital. The 15-year-old rider, wearing a helmet, suffered minor injuries and was taken to the same hospital by Cooper County Ambulance.
Both vehicles sustained moderate damage and were secured at the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.
