The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating a hit-and-run incident that critically injured a moped rider on March 8, 2025, at 8:10 p.m.
The crash occurred on N.C. Highway 58, near the T & W Oyster Bar. Authorities reported that 72-year-old David Richardson was traveling northbound on a moped when he was struck from behind by a vehicle.
Richardson was transported to Carteret Health Care in Morehead City with serious injuries.
According to witnesses, law enforcement is searching for a dark-colored four-door sedan, potentially an Audi, which may have sustained front-end damage during the collision.
