Teenager Hospitalized After Head-On Crash in Raynham
A 16-year-old boy was seriously injured in a head-on collision between a pickup truck and a water delivery truck in Raynham, Massachusetts, early Thursday morning.
The crash occurred around 7:30 a.m. on King Street near Miller Terrace. According to authorities, icy road conditions may have contributed to the incident. First responders found the passenger trapped and unconscious inside the pickup truck. He was later rescued and airlifted to a hospital in Rhode Island.
The pickup truck was operated by a 17-year-old male, also from Raynham, who was able to exit the vehicle on his own and was transported to a local hospital via ambulance. The driver of the Poland Spring delivery truck, a 54-year-old man from East Taunton, sustained no injuries.
Witnesses reported that the crash sounded like an explosion. Both vehicles experienced significant front-end damage, with the pickup truck's hood nearly crumpled.
Local and state police are investigating the accident. Icy conditions have led to multiple accidents in the area, and a winter storm is expected to bring additional hazardous weather Friday morning.
Dozens of crashes were reported on I-93 Wednesday due to similar icy conditions, though traffic improved by the evening commute.
