LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A teenager received a prison sentence Monday for a DUI-related crash that killed a 10-year-old boy in June near Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Henrry Norberto, 17 at the time of the incident, was sentenced to 3 to 20 years for driving under the influence resulting in death. The collision involved two pickup trucks on Interstate 15, where Norberto was driving in the wrong direction.
According to Nevada State Police, the crash killed 10-year-old Brandon Martinez, who was in the other vehicle and succumbed to injuries at the scene. Troopers reported that both THC and alcohol were detected in Norberto's system at the time of the crash.
The defense and prosecution previously reached a guilty plea agreement in February, with Norberto expected to serve 3 to 15 years. However, Judge Mary Kay Holthus rejected this plea and imposed a longer sentence.
Norberto has also been ordered to pay restitution.
