Richmond Police Charge Two in New Year's Day Homicide

RICHMOND, Va. — Two suspects have been charged in connection with a New Year's Day homicide that resulted in a vehicle crashing into a home.

Chesterfield Police responded to the 14900 block of Broadwater Way at approximately 1 a.m. on January 1. Officers found a that had collided with a residence, where 19-year-old Andrew Giles of Richmond was discovered deceased from gunshot wounds.

Authorities charged 20-year-old Nekyi Cherry of Richmond with second-degree murder and shooting in a public place shortly after the incident. Additionally, detectives identified a 14-year-old male as a second suspect.

Juvenile petitions were filed for charges of first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, shooting into an occupied vehicle, and possession of a handgun as a juvenile. The now-15-year-old suspect was arrested on Tuesday.
