CASCADE, Idaho (CBS2) — A teen driver sustained serious injuries in a chain-reaction crash on State Highway 55 in Valley County on September 17.
The incident occurred at 2:11 p.m. on northbound SH 55 at milepost 114.2, just outside Cascade. According to Idaho State Police, a 2005 Honda Accord, driven by a 17-year-old male from Kuna, crossed into the southbound lane and collided with a 2017 Ford F-250 operated by a 68-year-old man from Cottonwood.
The impact caused the Ford to veer off the road into a parking lot, where it hit a 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan driven by a 56-year-old man from Highlands Ranch, Colorado. The Volkswagen was subsequently pushed into a 2020 Ford Explorer driven by a 22-year-old man from Cascade.
The teenage driver was transported via air ambulance to a local hospital; authorities confirmed he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Both the northbound and southbound lanes of SH 55 were closed for approximately 2.5 hours. The incident was managed by Idaho State Police, with assistance from the Valley County Sheriff's Department, Cascade Fire Department, Idaho Transportation Department, Southern Idaho Timber Protective Association, and Air St. Luke's.
